Our mission

We have so far supported Bashir to secure an unconditional offer on the Masters course, paying the deposit for his tuition fees and liaising on his behalf with the Admissions Office.  We have also helped him to secure accommodation on the University campus.  We are working with Bashir to explore all potential scholarships and bursaries that might reduce the funds required.

We are committed to staying in contact with Bashir throughout the process and providing him with ongoing practical, and moral, support whilst we seek to finalise the arrangements for him to leave Gaza and take up his University place.

Bashir’s longer term hope is to assist in the restoration and rebuilding of Gaza after the war.  A postgraduate degree from an internationally recognised university will enable him to build a career and make a new life  for his family and give his children opportunities to learn, grow and develop in safety.

We wish to support Bashir to gain the skills to provide for his family and one day, contribute to rebuilding his homeland.

Project costs

The project costs are significant - estimated at approximately £40,000.

  • The course fees for a Masters Degree in Digital Innovation at University College Dublin are EU 23,870 for overseas students.

  • Bashir has a confirmed place in a University College Dublin hall of residence, on campus.

  • The University estimates total living expenses will amount to EU 11,0963. This covers all anticipated living expenses for the duration of the course, including bills, food and study materials.

  • A non-EU national who wishes to live in Ireland for longer than 90 days is required to obtain a visa to enter the country and a residence permit to reside there.

  • Non-European students coming to Ireland for studies need to provide proof of private medical insurance as part of their visa application. Having insurance in place is a pre-requisite for entering the country.

  • Currently travel out of Gaza is only possible by diplomatic evacuation, and Ireland has evacuated some students in recent months. We do not know what the situation in the country will be by the time Bashir is due to travel to Ireland.

  • Everyone involved in this project is working as a volunteer and contributing their time and resources freely. This is not a requirement for participation, it is a personal choice each of our volunteers have made. [How to address the overheads (website/bank fees etc) coming from FW account or project budget?]
