About us
Friendly Welcome Gaza
Friendly Welcome sponsored a Syrian refugee family (through the government community sponsorship scheme) to settle in London in 2022. We supported them with housing, educational and financial support through their transition to their new home & they are now self-sufficient and active members of their community.
We have also worked with a wider group to enable a young Palestinian woman to take up a university place in Paris.
We want to respond actively to the terrible events in Gaza after seeing the destruction and despair occurring there and hearing from Gazan men and women who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods over the last two years.
Many young people in Gaza are sustaining hope in the midst of destruction by applying for university courses overseas, hoping to build a better future for themselves, and to be able to contribute to their communities in the years ahead.
Our goal is to help individuals who - despite the suffering and constant threat they are surrounded by - have managed to secure a place to study at university. We will support them to meet the visa applications, both practically and with the substantial funds needed for tuition and living expenses. We are also trying to establish warm networks and communities to welcome and help them when they arrive in Europe. We are connecting with Quakers in other countries, and In the long tradition of Quaker initiatives, we are gladly working with people of other faiths and no faith, to act on our shared belief that every life is unique and precious.
